Lincoln's Last Letters


Finally, as President, Lincoln sent several letters and telegrams to generals in St. Louis and Secretary of Ward Edmund Stanton to release prisoners from the military prison at Alton. These letters were his last communication to a city with which Abraham Lincoln was historically linked.
