According to Green Hotels Association®, “green” hotels, bed and breakfasts, and inns are properties that are, “eager to institute programs that save water, save energy and reduce solid waste in order to help protect our one and only earth.”

• Super High Efficiency boiler and hot water radiator heat. Super High Efficiency means less energy. Radiator heat means you will be more comfortable at a lower thermostat setting.

• Passive solar design with a true North/South orientation.

• Lots of natural lighting thanks to extra large windows and third floor solar tubes.

• Fluorescent lights for energy savings in work areas (where historical accuracy is not a consideration.)

• Dimmer controls on select lighting for a romantic setting while conserving electricity.

• Mature trees provide shade to protect against summer heat.

• Room darkening shades block summer heat.

• Large working windows and working transoms provide natural cross ventilation and cooling.

• During the summer, ceiling fans in each guest room and the sitting room keep you comfortable while allowing for a higher thermostat setting.

• Low voltage landscape lighting.

• Exterior security lights on sensors and timers.

• Low water use commodes.

• R-30 ceiling insulation.

• Large refillable glass bottles of filtered water in guestrooms.

• Recycling, recycling, and more recycling. Even empty wine bottles are reused to package our BEALL MANSION Lavender Bath Salts.

• Used soap provided to the needy.

• Composting of yard and lawn wastes.

• Front loader clothes washer reduces water and detergent usage.

• Stay over guests are given the option of reusing towels and linens rather than changing daily.

• Water from summer dehumidifiers is used to water house plants.

• We make many of our cleaning products using less toxic ingredients and in bulk quantities reducing landfill waste.
